It is not the game that is getting the hate. They put their favorite movies, games and IPs on a pedestal to a standard which comes with an expectation that simply can't be met so they'll hate on any remake or reboot that dares to take on their favorite property before even giving it a fair shot. The very same people who clutch their pearls and say stuff, "Oh God, not another remake / reboot! Why can't they make something original? Creativity is DEAD!!!" I think part of the problem which can give a little insight is every popular franchise or IP has a small minority of purist fans whom will hate on any take which isn't a carbon copy.
